John “Sound” Strickland

My work within the entertainment field is quite extensive. Through the 1980’s and 1990’s playing in bands and also behind the desk mixing rock, world and jazz bands, whilst also working among a few local recording studios. Our
team worked hundreds of contrasting events at the Perth Entertainment Centre, UWA and other renowned venues,
touring & specialising in sound, lighting and production.
I left London Studios in 1998 and took on Waves Studio in Injidup as their caretaker, in-house producer and audio engineer, managing live events at Waves and next door, at Wardan Aboriginal Cultural Centre for many years. The last 20 years in the southwest has secured steady work with my PA, sound tech and stage management services regularly with Clancy’s, The Pour House, Firestation, Cape Mentelle, Vasse Felix, Arts Margaret River, AMR Shire, and
other council & community events, amongst a list of about 30-40 local venues, churches & schools.
Living and working the audio world in the southwest region has given me much insight into the direction of events around “my place”. Our region grows with much new vision, amongst the old stalwarts. Making any space look, and sound amazing is part of the magic. We don’t oversell gear you don’t need. We just bring the party. People meeting people. That’s what we do.
